GOLF REGISTRATION

The First Tee of Greater Texarkana will hold Summer Registration from 10 am to 6 pm on Tuesday June 1st at the First Tee Clubhouse at New Haven Golf Club in Texarkana, Arkansas. The program is for children ages 3-17. Registration is $35 dollars for new members and $10 dollars for currently enrolled participants. For more information phone (870) 774-golf thats 774-4653.

MEMORIAL DAY EVENTS

There will once again this year be a Veterans Memorial Day Event in Texarkana. It will get underway Monday May 31st with a Veterans Memorial Service at the Miller County Courthouse at 11 a.m. Immediately folling there will be Mmeorial Day Walk from the courthouse to the Korean-Vietnam Memorial at 7th at Stateline. The days events will conclude with a service at the Hillcrest Memorial Park on Highway 67 West in Wake Villege. That service will include an avenue of over 285 U.S. Flags and observe over 1200 U.S. Flags marking the graves of veterans. The service will include music, a guest speaker a 21 gun salute and a red, white and blue balloon release.

HIGH SCHOOL RODEO

Southwest Arkansas High School Rodeo invites you to come our and support area youth at the Finals Rodeo this Friday and Saturday May 28th and 29th. It all gets started at 6 pm on Friday and 5 pm on Saturday evenings. The Top 15 in each event are competing for over $60,000 thousand dollars in saddles, buckles, scholarships, and other prizes. There will be Bull Riding, goat tying, roping events, barrel racing and more. Saturday night there will even be a Bikini Barrel Race with some of the members parents. It is one of the funniest things you will see this year.

BULLDOG 100

The Bulldog 100 Mini-Nascar Race is going on this weekend at Texarkana College. The annual event to raise money for the Rising Star Scholarship Fund at T.C. is going on today and Saturday, with qualifying today and the races tommorrow. Besides the racing there will be food and fun activities for the entire family.

FAMILY WEEKENDS AT CENTRAL MALL

Central Mall in Texarkana, Texas has announced plans for weekend family time at the shopping center. The new Family Weekends@5 program calls for guests under the age of 18 to be accompanied by a parent\guardian after 5 pm on Fridays and Saturday evenings. The parent\guardian must be 21 or older and may not be responsible for more than four unrelated youth. All guests must abide by the mall's Code of Conduct.

Mall security may request to see a valid photo ID to verify age. Colored wristbands will denote individuals who have been checked and proven to be 18 or older. Teens employed at the mall must present proof of employment. Unaccompained youth who are under 18 will either be directed to a designated waiting area to await transportation, or be instructed to return home the same way they arrived at the mall.

The new Family Weekends @ 5 program will begin at 5p.m. on Friday May 14th, 2010.

LOCAL ARREST

The Texarkana, Arkansas Police Department has arrested 50 year old Gary Allen Underwood on charges of filing a false police report, a felony crime in the state of Arkansas. The arrest was a result of a 6 month investigation, which authorities say stemmed from a report allegedly filed by Underwood in October of 2009, alleging that he had been kidnapped at gunpoint and forced to drive his SNAP-ON company vehicle into the Sulphur River.

MOVIES IN THE PARK

The City of Texarkana, Texas Parks & Recreation Department will kick off its Spring Movies in the Park at Spring Lake Park this Thursday May 6th. The 1st movie will be "The Blind Side" (rated PG-13). CODE RED EXPANDS TO INCLUDE SEVERE WEATHER

Texarkana Emergencey Management Coordinator Dave Hall says the Code Red System is expanding to include Severe Weather Warnings for anyone in Texarkana, or Bowie and Miller Counties. The new warning system works much the same as Code Red. It will call any residence or business which may be in the path of a Severe Thunderstorm or possible Tornado. Even if you are already registered for CodeRed, you must regsiter for the Severe Weather alerts. You can do so by going to the city web site at www.txkusa.org and clicking on the CodeRed link at the bottom of the page. You may enter both a home or business number and a cell phone number. If you do not have access to a computer you can call (903) 798-3181 to register. Although the web site says to allow up to 2 weeks for your information to be entered, in light of the potential for Severe Weather this weekend they will be entered as soon as possible. The available warnings include Tornado Warnings, Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, and Flash Flood Warnings.

RELAY FOR LIFE TO GO ON INDOORS

The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life Activities will be going on this evening despite the prediction for severe storms. All of the events planned starting at 6 pm and running through the overnight hours will go on as planned. However all activities have been moved inside the Four States Fair Entertainment Center to keep participants dry in case of rain.

VEHICLE BURGLAR ARREST

Texarkana, Texas Police have made an arrest in connection with several recent vehicle burglaries around the city. Authorities have arrested and charged 31 year old Jamison Leon Rodgers. Police believe they also recovered a large amount of suspected stolen property some of which has been identified from various other property crimes. The suspect along with 27 year old Erin Underwood was also charged with possession of a controlled substance. The investigation continues and more charges are likely in the case.
